Care tips

Care tips for your microwave:

  • Not all food is suitable for cooking in a microwave. Check the instructions on the packaging. If you are unsure, consult a microwave cookbook.
  • When using a microwave, ensure that cookware is specifically marked as suitable for use in microwaves.
  • Never operate your microwave when empty as this will damage the magnetron and reduce the performance.
  • Always check the cooking times or wattage of your microwave. If your wattage is not displayed, refer to your instruction manual.

Cleaning your microwave

  • Wipe regularly the interior and exterior of your microwave with a warm, damp cloth.
  • To clean the plate, remove it from the microwave and wash in warm, soapy water.
  • To freshen your microwave, leave a bowl of warm water and lemon slices in it overnight.

Care tips for your stove:

  • Always ensure that your gas cooker is installed by a professional. Ensure that your electrical cooker is correctly connected and safely plugged in.
  • Follow manufacturers' instructions as to cooking times and advised temperatures for the best results.
  • After using the hobs, grill or ovens always double- check that they are switched off to prevent gas leaks, accidental burns and fires.
  • Be careful not to let pans boil over as this can affect the cooker's performance over time.

Cleaning your stove

  • Spills on the cooktop should be removed as quickly as possible to keep your cooker newer for longer.
  • Soak burners in hot, soapy water to soften grease and grime. Clean with a brush. Do not use scouring powder, which will clog the holes.
  • When cleaning your stove, a paste of water and baking soda can be used on difficult spots.

Things to remember

  • Use only dry pot holders when handling the stove. Moist or damp pot holders on hot surfaces could result in burns from steam. Also, one should not allow the pot holders to touch an open flame or use a towel or a bulky cloth in the place of a potholder.
  • Store flammable materials on or near the range. The fumes could create an explosion or a fire hazard.
  • Do not heat unopened containers; they could explode.

Comments from Consumers

Andrea Wong has proven that it works well when she soaks the grids/burners for 10-15 minutes in warm water.

"Grease is flammable, so one should not allow grease to collect around the cooktop or vents. Spillovers should be wiped up immediately. Householders should ensure that utensils are large enough to contain food in order to avoid boilovers," Wong said.
